Kurandza has come a long way in the past year! If you follow us on Instagram, you know that we are so excited to show our community more of the tangible impact we made this past year because of the statistics we’ve compiled. This is the first year that we have created an annual report, and we can’t wait to share the numbers with you!
This post is all about sharing our 2019 impact and annual report findings with you!Keep reading and you’ll also get a sneak peek into our goals for 2020!
2019 impact:

150+ #IStandForGirls sponsors joined
200 girls were sponsored

HERE ARE OUR 2019 IMPACT HIGHLIGHTS:
1. Giveback Partnership Program
Our Giveback Partnership Program is for entrepreneurs who believe in the power of education and how it can change a girl’s life for the better. This program is for business owners who want to use their company as a force for good by partnering with us and adding a giving component to their business model. Take a look at the impact they’ve made below!
2. #ISTANDFORGIRLS Community
Every September, people around the world join together saying #IStandForGirls in order to spread awareness about the importance of girls education, while raising funds to provide girls in Mozambique with the opportunity to attend school and have access to education! We’re excited to share with you the figures related to our amazing community:
121 Launch Team Members
106 Returning Sponsors
44 New Sponsors
40 Donors
50+ Blog and Social Media Posts
3. #ISTANDFORGIRLS Campaign
Because of the 2019 #IStandForGirls Campaign, we were able to secure funding to continue our sponsorship program and keep our 200 girls and 5 boys in school for the 2020 school year. Take a look at what this campaign is making possible for the current school year.
4. Girls Education Results
Because of the 2018 #IStandForGirls Campaign, 200 girls and 5 boys attended school in 2019. Here are the numbers:
5. Secondary School students
The secondary school students’ high school is located 10 kilometers away from the village where they live. This means that before they entered our program, they had to walk this distance (which took about an hour or so) to school AND back again each day. Many of the high school girls would drop out since they didn’t have funds to pay for transportation, and the walk to school was too difficult and too dangerous.
Because of our monthly #IStandForGirls sponsors, these girls have their transportation paid for everyday! See the impact in numbers below!
6. Breakdown of Financials
We believe that transparency is important and want to share these numbers with you! As a small grassroots non-profit, we’re able to ensure that the majority of funding goes to program costs instead of operations. As our total revenue increases, we will be able to allocate even more to programs and lower the programs to operations ratio. Every dollar counts and makes a BIG difference in Mozambique. As you can see that out of our total revenue divided by the number of children in our program, it costs $434.90 per child, which includes all their school fees, transportation, school supplies, as well as the staff salaries, fundraising, marketing, and logistics it takes to run the entire organization. By increasing our monthly giving, corporate matching, and individual donations, we know that we can make this number even smaller!
Total Raised in 2019: $89,155
Programs: $65,882
Operations: $19,985
We are almost a month into 2020 and we think it's the perfect time to keep the momentum of a new year going by making our goals public. Whether you're new to Kurandza, a Giveback Partner, a donor or a sponsor for our #IStandForGirls campaign or anything in between, we hope you're inspired and encouraged by our goals. AND we would love to invite you to join us in making them a reality!

HERE ARE OUR TOP 5 GOALS FOR 2020:
1. Get our 205 sponsored kids through school
Thanks to the success of our third #IStandForGirls campaign, we are continuing to send 200 girls (and 5 boys) to school this year! Half of the girls are continuing again to make it their third year in the program, and the other half are on their second year in the program! Their sponsorship includes school fees, uniforms, backpacks, transportation, after-school care, and school supplies. Our Holistic Education Program program provides girls with the opportunity to dream about a bright future.
2. Bring Percina, our Country Director, to the US again
In 2016 and 2017, our co-founder Percina was able to travel to the U.S. to attend conferences with Elisabetta and meet some of our biggestsupporters! She had plans to come to the US in 2018, but she had a baby instead! Now that her baby is one-and-a-half, we are hoping to bring her back at least once, to participate in conferences, meet donors, sponsors, participate in events, and make new friends. Percina has overcome so much and traveling to the U.S. is not only incredibly exciting for her, but gives her the opportunity to share her story with others, speak at events, and add momentum to our campaign launches so we can make more of an impact for our girls! Want to meet Percina when she comes? E-mail us at info@kurandza.org to let us know!
3. Increase our giveback partner and monthly giving programs
Our Giveback Partners are the backbone of our organization. Through their support, we're able to raise awareness and money for the work we do in Mozambique. We're planning to partner with even more women (and men) leaders and entrepreneurs to create even more change this year! This will allow us to continue bringing in steady funds that will help us complete our programmatic responsibilities in Mozambique, while partnering with like-minded individuals and businesses who want to give back and make a difference in the lives of women and girls.

4. Continue to build capacity at our partner pre-school
In 2018 our goal was to raise enough funds to improve the pre-school we partner with in Southern Mozambique. We raised the funds and started construction on the dormitory and painted the classrooms. This year, we want to continue helping with the classrooms and facilities restoration including building new bathrooms and making the pre-school an overall better environment for our pre-schoolers to learn and grow.
5. Have another successful #IStandForGirls Campaign in September 2020
As many of you know (because you were a part of it!) in 2019, we raised funds to give school scholarships to200 girls and 5 boys so that they could continue studying in and attending school. We also focused on our Holistic Education Program, and gave 20 girls the chance at a more all-encompassing education, which includes after-school tutoring, parent-teacher conferences, extracurricular activities, and more. The kids started school this February, and now you can see your donations in action. For 2020, we plan to continue to secure scholarships for our girls and focus on giving them more educational opportunities by increasing our Holistic Education Program!
