BUILD WITH US
Help us bring our dream learning center to life!
The Learning Center is designed as a safe, secure and inviting space for the girls. It embraces the natural setting by preserving the existing trees and centers around an open courtyard. The 'U-shaped' layout promotes a sense of freedom and exploration, and the entire structure is made using locally-sourced materials and techniques.
With straightforward instructions, volunteers like you and community members can help build the center together, transforming it into a collaborative, joyful and cost-effective process! Together we will build a tangible symbol of our long-term connection and commitment to uplift the community.

What we’re building
Your tax-deductible donation will go towards building a classroom for all the girls to attend literacy sessions, a childcare room for students who are mothers to leave their babies safely supervised, a kitchen to cook daily meals, staff room, stock room, and bathroom (which will be a big upgrade from the current latrine!)
$10,000 will fund phase 3, covering the costs of tearing down existing structures, leveling the land, and preparing the land for construction.
Architectural renderings thanks to Klaus Schmidt, Carolina Souza, Debora Nunes, Juliana Akemi and Archstorming.
our learning center vision
Bioclimatic Design
User comfort is guaranteed by the bioclimatic design strategies, such as natural ventilation, daylighting and passive cooling. Suspended fabrics on the ceiling contribute to sound absorption and function as a hot air containment chamber.
Playful Atmosphere
Pivoting windows and playful-panels help integrate the internal and external spaces and allow the control of light and ventilation as desired. Made of painted wooden boards, these elements were designed to bring a ludic and dynamic atmosphere to the learning center.
Solar Energy Harvesting
In order to optimize solar energy harvesting, solar panels are going to be installed over the metal roofing, facing North. Comfort wise, the roof will create a large covered path around the building that protects the rooms from the intense sunlight and direct heat.
Central Courtyard around Simplified Wooden Structure
The building is designed around the central courtyard in order to preserve the existing trees. Its “u-shaped” design allows the students to freely explore, play and learn under the close supervision of their teachers. Its simplified wooden structure is the key for the low-cost two-phased construction.
