Meet Alda: Our Newest Alumni Intern and Mentor Leader!
Meet Alda
Alda is a recent high school graduate, who has been with Kurandza since 2017, and her story is one of hard work, perseverance, and dedication.
Her inspiration is her mother, and she is always by her side. Alda's mother feels incredibly proud of her daughter's achievements, especially because she couldn't afford to pay for her education. However, with the help of Kurandza, Alda was able to attend school, and her mother is grateful for this opportunity.
“I love learning when I go to school, because my future depends on it.”
Before joining Kurandza, Alda didn't have any dreams. She didn't think about studying until she finished 12th grade. However, her mindset changed with the help of the organization. Now she dreams about college, her future, and she would like to be a nurse to help her community and her family. She is doing everything she can to stand out and learn as much as possible. Alda knows that the only way she can achieve her goals is by working hard and staying dedicated to her studies.
Intern and Mentorship Program
Alda did apply to college; however, she and her family don’t have the funds necessary for enrollment. Because of this, she wanted to stay with Kurandza and help as an alumni intern, leading the high school mentors, while she saves up her earnings this year so she can go to college next year.
Our approach to supporting girls like Alda as they spend their year with us as interns, is to create an environment for them to gain invaluable work experience while learning important skills. Our goal for Alda is to not only be prepared to enter a college course when she’s ready, but to have confidence in communicating with her leaders, peers, and those she leads.
